John Cole
Peak Genetics

Dr. John B. Cole is the PEAK Sr. Vice President for Research and Development, where he oversees the genetics and reproductive physiology research programs of the largest producer of dairy and beef cattle semen in the world. Before joining PEAK in 2021 he was a Research Geneticist and Acting Research Leader of USDA’s Animal Genomics and Improvement Laboratory for 17 years, where he authored or co-authored more than 140 peer-reviewed research articles and mentored many graduate students and postdoctoral scientists. Dr. Cole serves on committees for the Collaborative Dairy DNA Repository, National Association of Animal Breeders, and the International Committee for Animal Recording, and is a frequent speaker at scientific, industry, and producer meetings. He holds a PhD in Animal, Dairy, and Poultry Science from Louisiana State University with an emphasis in animal breeding and genetics, and is a graduate of the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. His research interests focus on genetic improvement of fertility, health, and fitness traits in dairy cattle; development of selection objectives for dairy cattle; pedigree analysis; and identification of recessive genetic defects in cattle.

What does profitability mean at the levels of farm, animal, and lactation?  What management decisions affect these?  What are specific aspects of dairy profitability that are affected by reproductive efficiency.


John Cook
World Wide Sires, UK

Dr. Cook has extensive experience working in the dairy industry throughout the UK and Europe. After dedicating 10 years to Paragon Vet Group, he worked as Tech Service Director for a major A.I. organization. He was responsible for supporting the expansion of services across Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East. For several years, he worked for Dairy Comp 305 providing technical support and training to clients. Most recently, Dr. Cook served as a technical consultant for Elanco Animal Health.
